Behind the cutouts is Cyflect material. Cyflect is a white, honeycomb structured sheet that does two things.
1. When a light is shone on it, it reflects that light back.
2. After being exposed to light, it also glows in the dark on its own.
The material works when wet and remains visible through fog and smoke. It does not use batteries or electronics. It is charged by ambient or direct light and can be reused repeatedly.
The patch is used to make a person or piece of equipment visible in low light or darkness using a simple, passive material.
